Work Experience and Placements
We offer work experience and placements to help people develop their skills, confidence and gain practical experience in the workplace.
This aims to develop you, improve your employability, provide a valuable insight into the council and the multiple career paths available.
At North Somerset Council, we offer placements for:
- school pupils
- sixth form and college students
- degree and postgraduate students
- all adults, whether on a course or not, who might want to broaden their skills, change direction or re-join the workforce
We welcome applications from everyone, including those who live within and outside the North Somerset Council area, who can reliably travel to our workplaces.
We are pleased to provide work experience opportunities for people who are care experienced and those with disabilities. Please let us know if you have any questions about how we make our placements accessible.
These placements are usually in person, but they can be hybrid or remote on request for a suitable applicant. Hybrid means a mixture of working in person and at home, remote is completely at home.
How to apply
Before applying, you are advised to explore our website and research the area(s) of the council you wish to gain experience in.
If you would like an Occupational Therapy or Adult Social Care placement as a social worker, please do not use this form but contact them direct on AdultsLearning@n-somerset.gov.uk
We receive high volume of applications. So, we cannot promise to be able to offer you a placement, but we do consider every application received.
We are open for applications for the 2024-25 academic year from:
Monday 23 September 2024 until Thursday 31 October at 5pm.
Depending on demand, we may open for non-school applications later in the year and will keep the situation under review.
