Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology based in Yatton, was established in 1982, while the parent company, Oxford Instruments Group celebrated its 50 year anniversary in 2009. As the first commercial spin-out company from Oxford University, Oxford Instruments developed the world’s first superconducting magnet in 1959, and has continued to expand and innovate since that time.

Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology employs over 330 people globally, the majority being based in the Yatton Head Office. The company supplies commercially successful, high-tech tools and systems into diverse markets which include industry, energy, the environment, and research.  Oxford Instruments has a global reputation for its technical skills and expertise, focusing its science and technology on providing the scientific and commercial communities with the right tools to support their work. 

With offices in Europe, Asia and the USA, we supply markets including semiconductor, optoelectronics, High Brightness LED, Photovoltaics, MEMS & microfluidics, and high quality optical coating industries, and many other application areas in micro- and nanotechnology. Our customers include the most renowned scientific research institutes and manufacturing companies in their fields.

In 2011, Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology was awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade, for more than doubling our overseas earnings over six years of sustained growth, and exporting over 90% of our production.

This Queens’ Award is the 3rd for Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology and 12th for the Oxford Instruments Group, and it recognises the skill, commitment and dedication of everyone at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology over a sustained period. Oxford Instruments Group strategy is to partner with our customers to strengthen our position as market leader for research tools, and provide world leading solutions to our markets.
