Sustainable Travel support for businesses

13th May 2021

Sustainable transport can benefit your staff and organisation. The council is a partner of Travelwest funded by the Department for Transport to increase the number of people walking, cycling, using public transport, and car-sharing.  Here are some grants and support available to businesses.

Grants: match-funding for Electric Cargo Bikes

Delivery business? Make lots of short vehicle trips? If your business is considering going greener with an electric cargo bike, match-funded grants will shortly be announced for e-cargo bikes as part of an Energy Saving Trust initiative. Applications will be assessed competitively and need to demonstrate how an e-cargo bike will help the business reduce its carbon. To receive an alert when the application form goes live in the coming weeks, contact Kerry via email (ref: Cargo Bike Interest) on sustainable.travel@n-somerset.gov.uk. Please include a link to the specific bike you are considering.

Match-funded Active Travel Grants 2021

A new round of match-funded grants for active travel initiatives will shortly be announced, with an application deadline of end June 2021. Grants have previously been used to buy pool bikes, to instal cycle parking, or to purchase lockers to encourage more walking and cycling. To be among the first to hear when this year’s grant applications open, sign up here to receive the Sustainable Travel team’s updates.

Access to Electric Bikes

The Council hopes to succeed in its bid to the DfT for funding to widen access to electric bikes. If you are a business or organisation interested in hosting a one-month electric bike trial, contact Kerry via email (ref: Electric Bike Interest) on sustainable.travel@n-somerset.gov.uk to receive further information.

Free bicycle stands for business

Workplaces and community venues in North Somerset can apply for up to five metal bike stands, to help encourage their staff, clients or visitors to cycle. Stands must be installed at the location’s expense and on land owned by the applicant. To apply, visit TravelWest and submit the form. Stands can then be collected from Clevedon.
