16th January 2020

Six North Somerset businesses have been shortlisted in The Enterprising West of England ‘Ones to Watch’ 2020 Awards which will take place on Wednesday, 29 January at the Bristol Old Vic.

The Awards celebrate the West of England’s most exciting and inspirational entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs who have received support from the Enterprising West of England Programme supported by the European Regional Development Fund, that has been running since 2017.

The 6 North Somerset businesses are set for great things heading in to 2020 and will be up against other businesses from Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and will compete in different categories including the region’s most promising BAME leader, environmentally sustainable business and regional businesses.

Weston-super-Mare PRIDE will compete in the contribution to the place of the West of England award, celebrating the input that businesses offer their communities by generating vibrancy, diversity and stability within the area, ensuring it is a place we all want to live and work, now and in the future.

Andy Shepherd of Groovy Grains, Clevedon, recycles wooden pallets to create furniture and is shortlisted for the environmentally sustainable business award and  Malaika Cattlin of Samsara Beauty and Holistic Therapy who offers treatments using vegan and animal cruelty free products has been shortlisted in the BAME category.

North Somerset also have 3 other businesses that have been shortlisted in the regional category:  Fox Developments who offer business consultancy from their Weston-super-Mare base, Sweet Construct, a construction company from Flax Bourton and Portishead’s Burleigh Create, a creative support and graphic design company. This category celebrates an Enterprising West of England supported business from each region which has a great business concept, is growing quickly, showing exceptional promise and is therefore set to become a leader in its field.  An overall winner for the West of England will be chosen from the regional winners.

Winners will be decided by a panel of independent business experts who will review nominations and pick a winner for each category based on specific criteria and winners for each category will be announced at the “Ones to Watch” 2020 awards ceremony taking place on Wednesday 29 January at Bristol Old Vic.
