RENS: Celebrating Black Heroes During Black Inclusion Week (12-18 May)

1st April 2025

At RENS, we’re excited to announce a series of activities to mark Black Inclusion Week (12-18 May). One of the highlights will be the “My Black Hero” event, and we’d love for you to get involved!

We’re inviting colleagues from North Somerset’s community organisations and businesses to participate by sharing who their Black hero is. Whether it’s someone famous or a personal hero, like a family member, friend, or community member. We want to hear about the individuals you admire. Simply tell us who they are and a sentence or two explaining why they inspire you.

These stories will be featured across our social media platforms and showcased in a special exhibition at The Other Place Community Centre on Meadow Street, Weston-super-Mare, during Black Inclusion Week.

If your hero is someone famous, we’ll happily include a photo or picture in the logo frame template. For those who choose to honour a less well-known hero, you can either send a photo or suggest an alternative image if you’d prefer not to share a photo.

If you’re interested in participating, just send an email with the following:

  • The name of your Black hero
  • A brief explanation of why they are your hero
  • Any photo you’d like included (if applicable)

Deadline: 30th April – please make sure to submit your responses before this date.

Have any questions? Or know others who might be interested? Feel free to reach out to us. Let’s come together to celebrate and honour the inspiring Black individuals in our lives!

We look forward to hearing your stories!
