There are many different exciting career options within the construction sector, with possible roles in property development, structural engineering, and land surveying.
All these positions tend to be very fast-paced with strict deadline but come with attractive incentives such as a competitive starting salary and the opportunity to work abroad.
The requirements for the construction sector will vary from job to job, however, skills such as IT literacy, negotiation and problem-solving skills, and strong time management are all strong starting positions.

Entry-Level: General Labourer
Average Annual Salary: £20,000
Description: General labourers support with a variety of tasks in construction and building. They complete physical work such as digging and mixing concrete, as well as setting up and clearing the worksite.
Requirements: On-site experience, Level 1 Certificate in Construction skills, Level 2 Certificate in Construction Operations, Health and Safety Courses not essential but desirable, Good physical health
Entry-Level: Bricklayer
Average Annual Salary: £20,000
Description: Bricklayers may work on a variety of projects such homes, roads or offices. They carry out specialist work that may include cutting bricks, repairing walls and consructing chimneys.
Requirements: On-site experience, Level 1 Certificate in Construction skills, Level 2 Certificate in Construction Operations, Health and Safety Courses not essential but desirable, Good physical health
Mid-Level: Construction Foreman
Average Annual Salary: £35,000
Description: A construction foreman supervises the construction crew. Their role may include scheduling, securing new jobs and liasing with architects. The foreman may be responsible for both office based and physical tasks.
Senior-Level: Construction Project Manager
Average Annual Salary: £45,000
Description: A construction manager oversees building projects and makes decisions. Much of the work is administrative. It may include managing the budget, hiring subcontractors and carrying out quality control. This is a leadership position that requires specialist skills.
Senior-Level: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Average Annual Salary: £55,000
Description: Senior quantity surveyors work out what materials are needed for a construction project, in order to work out its cost. They work throughout the construction process, often working as a liaison for the engineers, suppliers and clients.
