The Food WorksSW is a vibrant and dynamic food and drink innovation centre located within the Food Enterprise Zone in the Weston Business Quarter, North Somerset ten minutes from the M5 motorway. Nurturing food and drink manufacturers at the very start of their journey to providing more established businesses with the technical know-how to innovate and grow, the facility provides food and drink manufacturers with all the right ingredients to succeed.
The multi million pound centre, funded by the West of England Local Growth Fund, opened in April 2020. The centre is owned by North Somerset Council and operated by the Future Food Partnership, a locally owned Community Interest Company (CIC). The Food WorksSW is the first centre of its kind in the region and provides unrivalled facilities for food and drink manufacturers and hospitality businesses across the South West and beyond. These purpose built facilities enable businesses to develop new and existing products in twelve purpose built, food-grade incubator business units that sit adjacent to state of the art product development and manufacturing facilities in the Business Engagement building.
The technical facilities within the dedicated Business Engagement building are designed to enable food and drink producers to both trial and manufacture products on a small industrial scale with the support of an on-site dedicated technical team. The Food Works technical team can assist any food and drink business with product development, reformulation, processing, equipment, packaging, shelf-life and support with accreditation and standards such as HACCP, SALSA and BRC. The four product development rooms are kitted out with some of the latest dairy, bakery, drinks and commercial scale equipment and can be hired on a one-off daily basis for food and drink product development or to provide additional capacity at business times or to manufacture your product on a regular basis without the commitment and overheads of a business unit. Autumn/winter 2024 will see exciting new additions to the centre in the form of a canning line, homogeniser, food photography suite and a small meeting room for groups of up to 8 people.
As a regional centre of excellence The Food WorksSW creates a focal point for food and drink businesses to come together and connects producers from across the South West to network, collaborate and share best practice. There are three large meeting rooms, on-site cafe and a large bright lounge area for informal meetings, events and touch-down. The Centre hosts a range of online and in person workshops and events of interest to food and drink producers. The Food WorksSW team has the ability to connect businesses with key industry partners and academics to identify the very latest advances in technology and product development, find innovative solutions, highlight new routes to markets and consumer trends.
