Friday 22 May | Marine Lake set to re-open ready for summer season
Weston-super-Mare’s Marine Lake is set to re-open to the public on Friday 22 May at 3pm, ready to be enjoyed by residents and visitors this summer.
The tidal lake, which is usually open all year round, has been closed since 6 October 2025 to enable extensive improvement work to be carried out as part of the council’s ambitious placemaking vision for Weston.
This has been made possible thanks an allocation from the total £20m awarded to the council by the UK government.
The council’s appointed contractor, Weston-based EJ McGrath is nearing completion of the improvement work ready for the reopening, which has included:
- repairing and resurfacing the lower walkway around the lake
- improving access by repairing, resurfacing or rebuilding steps and ramps, and upgrading handrails
- improving signage around the lake and installing a new welcome sign at the entrance to improve visibility
- utilising and repurposing under-used space to create a new business, equipment hire and storage facility
- upgrading and increasing the number of public toilets in use, including one accessible toilet, while changing them to self-contained cubicles with direct entry from the promenade
- installing additional cycle racks
- repairing the Madeira Gardens pavilion roof.
