West of England Business Board Seeks Members for Regional Growth

23rd October 2025

Help Drive Economic Development Across Our Region

The West of England Combined Authority is recruiting six new members for its Business Board, with three positions serving as cluster chairs for key economic sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for local business leaders, academics, and sector professionals to influence regional economic strategy and development.

Available Positions and Sectors

The Business Board is seeking members across five strategic sectors that mirror the region’s Growth Strategy:

  • Creative Industries
  • Digital and Technologies
  • Clean Energy (cluster chair position)
  • Advanced Manufacturing (cluster chair position)
  • Everyday Economy (cluster chair position)

Three of the six positions will serve as cluster chairs, taking a leadership role in guiding strategy for Clean Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, and the Everyday Economy sectors.

Who They’re Looking For

The Combined Authority is seeking a diverse mix of experience and expertise, including:

  • Academics developing new technologies
  • SME leaders and entrepreneurs
  • Professionals working directly in these sectors
  • Individuals from smaller businesses and start-ups
  • Representatives from the voluntary and community sector

There’s a particular focus on encouraging applications from people who don’t typically see themselves represented in regional decision-making processes, whilst ensuring geographical balance across the West of England region.

Breaking Down Barriers to Participation

Recognising that participation in such boards can present challenges for some individuals, the Combined Authority has introduced a small honorarium. This financial support is designed to help remove barriers for people who might otherwise find it difficult to contribute their time, particularly those from smaller businesses, start-ups, or the voluntary and community sector.

How to Get Involved

If you’re interested in applying or know someone who would bring valuable expertise and a fresh perspective to regional economic development, applications should be sent to: businessboard@westofengland-ca.gov.uk

Application deadline: 31st October
