Tyler’s Journey: From Job Seeker to Award-Winning Team Member at NSEC

23rd September 2025

When Tyler first came to an Opportunity North Somerset employability day at the local library, he wanted to get into work but wasn’t sure what opportunities were out there. He applied for a Loader job with North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC), but there were no spaces available at that time. The company kept him in mind for future jobs.

A few weeks later, a job came up as a Recycling Operative at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Weston-super-Mare. NSEC got in touch, and Tyler joined the team at the start of April.

“I was a bit nervous but excited,” Tyler says. “It was all new, but I was made to feel very welcome.”

A Supportive Team Where People Do Well

Since joining NSEC, Tyler has done really well in his job. His colleagues created a supportive environment where he quickly gained confidence and found his place within the team.

“Everyone is great to work with; we have a laugh but get on with the job,” he says.

Tyler’s hard work has been noticed. In just a short time, he received a staff award after a member of the public praised his work. This shows the positive difference he’s making in his role.

Looking to the Future

Tyler is already looking ahead to develop his skills: “I’m looking forward to learning more and getting trained on the plant.”

For Tyler, joining NSEC isn’t just about having a job. It’s about being part of a team that values his growth, celebrates his strengths, and supports his future.
