Shaping Weston’s Future: Business Leaders’ Forum at The Food Works

9th December 2024

Join us on February 7 as we gather business leaders at The Food Works to discuss the future of Weston in partnership with the Weston Chamber of Commerce.

In 2020, local stakeholders developed the Super Weston placemaking strategy, which is a ten-year vision for Weston’s renewal and regeneration. The strategy is overseen by the Weston Place Agency, which is a cross-sector collaborative partnership to drive the delivery of the programme and transformation of the town. More recently, North Somerset Council has secured a £20 million investment from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund following a successful bid by North Somerset Council as part of the authority’s ambitious placemaking vision for the town. This event will gather local leaders involved in delivering the Super Weston strategy to provide updates regarding key projects. We’ll also discuss challenges and opportunities regarding the next phase of Weston’s regeneration.

In addition, we will hear from Agratas, which is creating a new multi-billion-pound electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in the UK on the Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater. The cell manufacturing facility is set to be the biggest battery facility in the country and, by the early 2030s, will contribute almost half of the projected battery manufacturing capacity required for the UK automotive sector.  Battery production is set to begin in 2026, creating up to 4,000 new high-skilled green tech jobs in the area.

Hosted by David Crew, Managing Director at Somerset Chamber of Commerce, our speakers will include:

  • Daniel Aldridge, MP for Weston-super-Mare
  • Jane Harrison, Head of Economy at North Somerset Council
  • Tim Williams, Community Engagement Manager at Agratas
  • Sue Shillabeer, President at Weston Chamber of Commerce
  • Pat Jones, Principal & CEO of Weston College
