Announcing! Curzon Cinema and Arts Season Three!

21st July 2024 – Curzon Cinema and Arts is thrilled to unveil its highly anticipated Season Three events line-up, featuring an eclectic mix of blockbuster films, live music, immersive screenings, and cultural events set to captivate audiences between September and December 2024.
Head of Programme, Petra Mansour says: “This season showcases how Curzon Cinema and Arts is so much more than just a cinema, creating events and experiences that enable on-screen narratives to come alive allowing communities to get involved and become part of a dynamic conversation.”
In addition to feature film releases including The Critic starring Ian McKellen, Paddington 3, Joker: Folie à Deux, Gladiator II, Wicked, and Moana 2, Season Three is a packed programme of 42 unique screenings and live events.
Highlights include:
- A showcase of the best new comedians from Edinburgh in Fresh from the Fringe, as well as two instalments of our regular comedy club Curzon Comedy Live.
- Films featuring a range of Outdoor Adventures including a screening of Younger, a film about friendship and purpose in masters athletics, a place where every five years, getting older means becoming the youngest followed by a Q&A with the film’s directors.
- A live in-conversation with Alexander McCall Smith, author of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, who will be introducing his new novel The Winds from Further West.
- Films exploring the Connections between our community and global stories, including the pre-launch of the Bristol Palestine Film Festival.
- A live musical performance by Justin Adams and Mauro Durante who find new common ground between the Maghreb, Saharan desert and delta blues, Mediterranean melody, the taranta of Puglia in south Italy, and rocking soul.
- One spectacular, fabulous evening featuring a screening of The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of The Desert, fully loaded with two hours of pre-screening raucousness from Bristol’s finest Queens – Drag Queen Bingo!
- A season of six classic films including Lone Star, The Conversation, and Gilda, presented in association with Cinema Rediscovered.
- Films exploring the intersection of cinema and visual arts including Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
- During October half term, The Paper Cinema will gather favourite short stories and perform them live with two puppeteers and a multi-instrumentalist who will delight our audience with atmospheric tales of ghosts, dreams, and the supernatural.
- Event Cinema screenings from the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House.
- All of our Christmas favourites – The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Snowman accompanied by Bristol Brass Band, Die Hard, and the Curzon tradition, Elf on Christmas Eve.
- A post-Christmas treat as Curzon volunteer organist and cinema-maestro Bernie Brown will be providing live accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin classics.
- An immersive screening of The Lost Boys featuring DJ Cheeba, music, monsters, and mayhem!
