Hinkley Point C Raise Your Game Workshop - Culture
08 February 2016, from 09:30 AM to 12:00 PM
This is the fifth in a series branded "Raising your Game", organised by Somerset Chamber of Commerce, funding from North Somerset Council and leveraging the experience of professionals to assist businesses to take positive action to secure contracts when opportunities arise.
Following a recent questionnaire distributed to North Somerset companies who are registered on the Hinkley Supply Chain Portal, we received requests for us to host a workshop on working with non-British companies. In particular, what the various teams from different countries and cultures will expect in terms of hospitality and standards. With this request in mind we have formulated the next 'Raise Your Game' workshop on the theme of 'Culture'.
Whether it's a simple handshake or an epic business lunch, professional protocol is serious business and acceptable behaviour is different all over the world. To help guide you through the quagmire of foreign business customs, expert Hilary Charman of the UKTI, is on hand to show you which areas to focus on during visits and provide insider knowledge of what definitely NOT to do. Tips to include an overview of etiquette, cultural expectations and business customs.
Continuing the theme of culture, the second section of the workshop will be a presentation from EDF Energy's Nuclear New Build Senior Supply Chain Engagement Manager, Jamie Driver. He will deliver an insight into the strict safety culture that is expected by all workers at all levels whilst delivering on contracts at HPC. This will include the principles of health & safety and the way we all behave at work - and how critical they are to achieving their Zero Harm ambition.
Closing the session will be Chris Pratt the Managing Director of Elecsis Switchgear Ltd. He will be sharing with you some of his experiences of working with Koreans. This promises to be an honest and insightful look at some of the challenges they have faced in forming their business agreements.
Who should attend?
Managing Directors, Business Development Directors, Commercial Directors and key members of bid teams who are forming their business's response to the opportunities presented through the Hinkley C development. This highly interactive workshop, for business owners and senior directors, will bring you face-to-face with the realities of taking on this kind of challenge and what it could mean for your company.
A maximum of two delegates per company may attend.
(A charge of £10 including VAT to contribute to the cost of delivering workshop, applicable only to non Somerset Chamber members).
