Lye Cross Farm celebrating 25 years of organic cheese production

Alvis Bros.Ltd, one of Somerset’s leading farmhouse cheese producers are this year celebrating 25 years of organic cheese production.

Lye Cross Farm’s long-term commitment to organic cheese production has certainly paid dividends since its launch in 1992.  Now with an extensive network of UK buyers including wholesalers and retailers plus an expanding list of overseas customers the quality of our farmhouse made organic cheese knows no bounds!

John Alvis Snr said, “Converting our Chapel Pill Farm to organic milk production in the early 1990’s was one of the best decisions we ever made. And here we are 25 years later able to celebrate our commitment the diversity and sustainability of the UK dairy industry.”

Ian Bugg, Sales & Marketing Director at Lye Cross Farm says, “Continued development of our exports has drawn additional attention to our organic cheese range for buyers, notably those seeking organic ingredients in quality food production.”

The Alvis Family have 65years’ experience of cheese making and 400 years of farming the land of Somerset. Their organic product range includes Cheddar in various flavours and formats for retail, food service and food manufacturers. All product is certified organic by the Bristol based the Soil Association.  As well as organic product the dairy produces West Country Farmhouse Cheddar which carries a Product of Designation Origin (PDO) from the European Union indicating its authentic nature and provenance.
