There is a great provision of Educational Services throughout the district offering services for people of every age.

Backwell exam results

In 2014, 93% of secondary school pupils in North Somerset attended a good or outstanding school (up 5% from 2013). This puts the district second out of 15 local authorities in the South West region for this indicator.

Also in 2014, the 5+ A*-C GCSEs pass rate, including English and Maths, was 58.8% which is a 0.9% increase on last year's results. In North Somerset the percentage of pupils achieving A*-C in:

  • English increased by 2.9% to 70.1%
  • Maths has increased by 2.4%
  • a modern foreign language increased by 4.4%
  • humanities increased by 5.8%.

Weston College

Weston College was rated as 'Outstanding' by OFSTED in 2014. In February 2015, the college won both the College of the Year and the Overall Provider of the Year categories at the Times Educational Supplement Further Education Awards.

North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College (NSETC)

NSETC opened in September 2014 and is a specialist college focusing on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), combined with a strong business ethos. Work has started on a brand new permanent home for the college, located within the Junction 21 Enterprise Area in Weston-super-Mare.
