South Bristol Link
The South Bristol Link is a combined road and MetroBus (rapid transit bus) route that travels between the A370 in Long Ashton and Hengrove Park. It includes new cycle and pedestrian paths along the whole of the 4.5km route. The project will transport passengers into south Bristol, linking the Long Ashton Park and Ride site to the new hospital, the Skills Academy, the shops at Imperial Park and the leisure centre at Hengrove Park.
The route will link into the wider MetroBus network with access to Bristol city centre and along the M32 to Cribbs Causeway and Emerson’s Green in the north.
The project will create jobs, encourage investment and help the economic growth of the whole region. North Somerset Council wants to provide more reliable public transport for the people of North Somerset who work in Bristol and reduce the time it takes to get to Bristol Airport.
South Bristol Link was granted planning permission in November 2013. There was a Compulsory Purchase Order Public Inquiry that took place in July 2014. The Inspector of the Public Inquiry gave the project the green light in October 2014.
The project appointed a Design and Build Contractor in October 2014 and the design work has been progressing since then.
The South Bristol Link section of the West of England MetroBus Network has been granted Full Approval by the Department for Transport. Construction work started Spring 2015.
